How our calculators work

Our price checks show how your price compares with typical prices for new deals, taken from providers' own websites each month. Our calculators add up what a deal costs over its whole length. Neither tells you what you should pay, because the right price depends on things only you and your provider know.

What happens to what you enter

Our calculators work in your browser. We don't store the prices or details you type into them.

How we round and add up

Totals are in whole pounds. Every price and total we show is rounded to the nearest pound.

Averages are in pounds and pence. There is one exception: the "Average per month" on the upgrade or switch calculator is shown in pounds and pence, so two close deals don't look the same.

Price rises are added once a year, from month 13. If you enter a yearly price rise, it is added to the monthly price once every 12 months. Months 1 to 12 are at the starting price, months 13 to 24 are one rise higher, and months 25 to 36 are two rises higher.

Contracts started since 17 January 2025 must state any yearly price rise in pounds and pence.

Mobile bill check

On: Mobile phone deals: check what you pay, then compare

What it compares: Your monthly price against the typical SIM only range for the data you get. The range covers 30-day, 12-month and 24-month plans. If you have a phone on contract, your price is shown next to the SIM only range, without saying how far apart they are.

Source: Typical prices for new deals, taken from providers' own websites each month (the BillsSorted price snapshot). Last collected on 18 October 2026.

Updated: Checked monthly.

Good to know: A phone contract price usually includes the cost of the phone, so it is not a like-for-like comparison with SIM only.

Is my phone paid off?

On: When does my phone contract end? Check if your phone is paid off

What it compares: The month your contract started and how long it runs, to show how many months are left or how long ago it ended. It then shows your price next to the typical SIM only range for your data.

Source: The months are worked out from the dates you enter. SIM only prices: typical prices for new deals, taken from providers' own websites each month (the BillsSorted price snapshot). Last collected on 18 October 2026. The INFO text code is from Ofcom, Switching mobile phone provider, updated 25 August 2026.

Updated: Checked monthly.

Good to know: It is worked out to the nearest month. Your network can confirm your exact end date: text INFO to 85075.

Total cost calculator

On: Phone contracts: check the full cost, then compare

What it compares: A phone on contract against buying the phone and adding a SIM only deal, over the same number of months. It adds the upfront cost and every monthly payment on each side.

Source: Your own figures. The rule on price rises is from the Ofcom ban on inflation-linked mid-contract price rises, in force from 17 January 2025.

Updated: Nothing to update. It uses only the figures you enter.

Good to know: The SIM only side assumes you keep the same SIM only price for the whole period, apart from any yearly rise you enter.

Free gift total cost

On: Phone deals with free gifts: what they really cost

What it compares: What a phone deal with a gift costs over the whole contract, and the same total once you take off what the gift is worth. If you add the same phone without the gift, it shows both totals.

Source: Your own figures, including the value you give the gift.

Updated: Nothing to update. It uses only the figures you enter.

Good to know: Taking off the gift's value only counts if you would have bought the gift anyway. Use the price you'd pay for it in a shop today.

Upgrade or switch

On: Phone upgrade: upgrade with your network or switch?

What it compares: Your network's upgrade offer against a new deal elsewhere, with any early upgrade fee or fee to leave counted in. If the two deals run for different lengths, it shows the average per month for each.

Source: Your own figures.

Updated: Nothing to update. It uses only the figures you enter.

Good to know: Text INFO to 85075 to see any fees for leaving early.

Source: Typical prices for new deals, taken from providers' own websites each month (the BillsSorted price snapshot). Last collected on 18 October 2026.

Network price checks

On: EE SIM only deals compared, Vodafone SIM only deals compared, Three SIM only deals compared, Unlimited data SIM only deals compared

Source: Typical prices for new deals, taken from providers' own websites each month (the BillsSorted price snapshot). Last collected on 18 October 2026.

Updated: Checked monthly.

Good to know: The ranges are for 12-month SIM only contracts. Smaller brands that use the same network can have different prices.

On: Broadband deals: check what you pay, then compare

What it compares: Your monthly price against the typical range for your broadband speed.

Source: Typical prices for new deals, taken from providers' own websites each month (the BillsSorted price snapshot). Last collected on 18 October 2026.

Broadband and TV bill check

On: Broadband and TV packages: check what you pay, then compare

What it compares: Your whole monthly price, broadband and TV together, against the typical range for your type of package: broadband and TV, or broadband and TV with sport or movies. The range is the same whatever your broadband speed.

Source: Typical prices for new deals, taken from providers' own websites each month (the BillsSorted price snapshot). Last collected on 18 October 2026.

Updated: Checked monthly.

Good to know: Sport and movie channels add to the price. Faster broadband can too, but the range covers every speed.

Cost by contract length

On: 12-month broadband deals: shorter contracts compared

What it compares: A 12-month contract, a 24-month contract and a rolling monthly deal, each added up over the same 24 months, with set-up fees. It gives the spread between the lowest and highest total. It does not pick one.

Source: Your own figures. The rules on end-of-contract messages are from the Ofcom end-of-contract and annual best tariff notification rules, in force from 15 February 2020.

Updated: Nothing to update. It uses only the figures you enter.

Good to know: It assumes the same prices for the whole 24 months unless you've entered a change, such as the price after a 12-month contract ends.

Ofcom panel on provider pages

On: Sky broadband deals: prices, terms and what the data says, Is Vodafone broadband good? What the data says

What it compares: Complaints to Ofcom per 100,000 broadband customers, for the provider next to the industry average, for the latest quarter and the three before it. It also shows customer satisfaction for the provider and the industry average.

Source: Complaints: Ofcom, Telecoms and pay-TV complaints, with the quarter and publication date. Satisfaction: Ofcom, Comparing customer service: mobile, home broadband and landline.

Updated: Complaints: updated each quarter when Ofcom publishes new figures. Satisfaction: updated each year when Ofcom publishes its report.

Good to know: These are published figures. We do not add ratings, stars or opinions of our own. For complaints, a lower number means fewer complaints.

When few providers offer a deal

Each typical range is based on deals from at least 4 providers. Where fewer than 4 providers offer a deal in a group, such as a data amount on a 12-month contract, the price check uses a wider group, such as that data amount on any contract length. The result then says which group it used. If even the wider group has fewer than 4 providers, the range is shown with the number of providers it is based on, for example "Based on 3 providers this month".

Figures on this page are a guide, not advice. They show typical prices for new deals, not what is right for you. Prices and rules change often, so check the details with the provider before you decide.
