TV packages explained
A TV package adds paid-for channels and a TV box to your broadband. Most are built in layers:
- A base package: extra entertainment channels on top of the free ones, usually with a box that records and plays on-demand shows.
- Add-ons: sport and movies cost extra each month, and are what push packages to the top of the price range.
- Streaming apps: some packages include subscriptions, or let you add them to your bill.
Whatever package you choose, you need a TV Licence to watch or record live TV on any channel or service, or to use BBC iPlayer. If you only watch the main channels, Freeview has no monthly subscription.

What changes the price
What is in the package
Sport and movie channels add to the monthly price, so packages with them sit higher than broadband and TV alone.
Broadband speed
Faster broadband can cost more, though some providers charge the same for faster speeds in a TV bundle.
Contract length and price rises
Most big providers sell broadband on 24-month contracts. Some also offer 12-month deals. Prices rise by a fixed amount each spring (usually 31 March or 1 April) during the contract, and the price usually changes when the contract ends.
